Technology has become a big part of our life nowadays.
Everyone is looking at the smart phone, iPad, computer or television.

The information seems come and goes more and more easily and quickly, the ways for us to explore the world is much richer and diversified. We can see thousands of movies with few buttons in iTunes, look at some street at the other side of the earth with few buttons in Google map or look at any art work or natural spectacle with typing few words in the search engine.
But in the other point of view, people actually restrict by technology to feel the art of life with their own sense.

How can a rectangle show the beauty of the sun set and with the sunshine lie on your face?
No matter how big a television is.
How can a rectangle show the beauty of the sea and the wind pass by.
No matter how high the revolution is.

My art work would hold in front of the beautiful cliff or beach or a brilliant art work..
I would hang a rope just right beside the way people pass by.
When people pass by, I will invite them choose a random size of rectangle frame that we proved to frame the best angle from their eyes to see these amazing view or the best part they enjoy. They could hang on the rope or just under the frames that other people hanged.

After many hours there will be many of rectangles hanging in my work. It would make an interesting and quite aesthetic picture that different size of rectangle frame showing in the midair and each of them is represent one person contribute in my work. But what I am trying to show is in fact that none of them can really show the beauty and the art of life. Each of them is only framing a very small part of the real experience from their own point of view and if you see through the rectangles, they will never be as great as the whole picture. At the same time, they will affect the whole view because the frames actually block the view and make destruction.

At the end, the frames can’t make a great view itself and can’t make a great view as a whole. In real life, if everyone just stake with their own rectangles, how can the art of life shows its ray of light just like the view of my art work? Hold up your head and experience the art of life.

My inspiration comes from my cousin, a ’80s collector, Mrs. Zhu Yuxiang.
My cousin was born in the 80s , she always told me how her life was in the ’80s, she think that ’80s is a simple and full of human touch’s city. Many children playing in park happily, likes swings, slides. After playing, they usually go to snack shop buy food, or go to the toy shop. Also, I know Mrs Zhu Yuxiang for a long time, she inspired me a lot,I had saw some of her collection in the internet, those toys were famous in the ’90s and now they are classic! Therefore I have come up an idea about this project.

My project is an exhibition about the ’80s. I would like to show the photos taken in the ’80s, and object which were common in the ’80s. Because time flies, and our city has changed a lot, many things happened in 80’s are gradually be forgotten by people, therefore I would like to do this project in order to remind people some remarkable thing, such as park, toys, food, road, bus, something which was common and people always met in the ’80s.

My exhibition is divided into two parts.
First part is using photo to reflect our ’80s. In this part, I will choose some photos which is representative, the meaning of representative is Photo should be taken in ’80s,the content must be about ’80s daily life, such as toy ,family photos ,transport and something people always meet in their daily life.

Those photo will all stick in a board which designed by myself, because I want to bring out a feeling that the ’80s were the best and wonderful. Also I want the audience will feel warmth and yearning after watching my exhibition, so the tone of my design will be classical . The color will mainly using brown and blue.

Another part is collecting object to reflect our ’80s. All remember that each people growing up in the 1980s, girls were always pulled the rubber band kept jumping from kindergarten onward, the boy is in love with a water gun, slingshot plan prank after school little friends sat together laughing hide and seek, digging bunkers, buried treasures. Own closet, the head of the bed, a pillow under the tumbler, the long-legged doll, as well as play without getting tired of stained glass marbles to shoot foreign paintings. Therefore I would like to collect those things and some electric equipment, likes rice cooker, television ,mobile phone ,fan and so on. Because those thing has changed so fast nowadays, many people forget the old ones, the wonderful old ones , so I want to recall people’s memory through my exhibition.

Finally, I truly hope that this project can be done. Then our common memories can be last. And our new generation can know more about the ’80s, their parents life in the ’80s! Past our life experience to next generation is one of our duty, so my exhibition is necessary. I really want to express that even time flies, and our city has changed a lot, but we can still keep those things via our strive. In the exhibition, I also want to emphasize each epoch has their valuable things existed, we should treasure all the things appear in our city.

Concept: In daily life, everything seems to have a fixed image and made by a fixed materials such as paper should be made by wood and cup should be made by glasses. These concepts are fixed in people mind since they were born and people always think it is normal. However, I think these concepts should not be recognized that deservedly. Actually, we can change those materials creatively if the property of the other things is suitable for it. So, I am finding some way to put this idea into practice and this is an artwork from Caleb Charland. This is an art that combine Art and Science. Since in the fruit, there is some fruit acid which can conduct electricity, the fruits can replace battery to make the light lights up.

Method: To make a fruit light is very easy. First, divided the fruit into pieces and put a light bulb in the middle. For remainder, it is better to cut the fruit into semitransparent so that you can see the light later. Second, stab the galvanized nails and coppers into the fruits and connect them with the light bulb. Then, the fruit acid will have chemical action with the galvanization. Wait for some minutes, the light bulb will light up and the fruit light will be done. However, since the electricity that the fruit provided is very weak, if you want to take a photo and make the fruit light as bright as the photo above, you should have exposure for a few hours. According to this method, you can use fruit to replace batteries to conduct electricity for many things!

In this artwork, I am going design a carton box that is placing many childhood memories. For example, the Gameboy in black and white is needless to say. As we all know, smart phone and Iphone are eroded our life. The little children are playing Iphone, Ipad and Ipod. However, those devices are updated too fast and too easy to get it. They just need to click a “DOWNLOAD” button in the Apps store, after that they can get whatever they want. What is the consequence? The children may not treasure the things they own.

Apart from the old devices, sticker photo also cannot be omitted. When we was a young teens, sticker photo is mostly every children favorite. Also, it was about $30-40 something. However, the newest devices were established. Those devices can make many effects for the photo we taken. No matter sticker photo, vintage photo or old photo, you just need a phone. Those make sticker photo expensive because the cast of running was increased by lack of customers. Through the sticker photo, I will use many sticker photos to be the wallpaper to fulfill the carton box outside.

Needless to say, communicate by post is the things many Hong Kong people had been tried. Their was a tend to collect stamp in the older Hong Kong. However, email, Facebook and Twitter. It makes the post delivering method may not be chosen. So in this work, I will use different stamp as the wallpaper, to fulfill the envelope, which can be the decoration and bring out the message that we should not rely on the electric devices.
Moreover, Barbie dolls can be omitted too. When we were young, Barbie doll is the dream of many girls. However, people tend to choose newest devices instead of collecting a playing Barbie dolls. So, I want to transform the messages that do not forget the thing that had gave us happiness. Other than that, I will place the Barbie dolls with my hand made clothes in the carton box.
Nowadays, people like to share their ups and downs in their daily life through the social network. They can modify the photo effect. In the old style camera, it only takes one photo each frame. It makes us treasure shot. I will place some old style photo which taken by film camera.

In this works, I will use the carton box as the Pandora’s box. When people open it, it will make them unforgettable and cannot stop thinking.

I’m hall resident, although I choose the double room, however most of times my room-mate was not in the room. She seldom back to hall, so I always feeling lonely in my room at night. As I just always stay at my room alone, with 3 white walls and 1 window. It is so boring!
So, I always imagine that the walls in my room could be the screens for me, let me watching the videos. Moreover, as nowadays smart phones are really common, we can use our phones for taking photos or video at any time. So, I do think that everyone could be an artist!

The main idea of my work is that I want to show photos as the wall paper of my room, (or actually anywhere that I want with white wall )especially the photos that I took by my phones which can let me memorizes my daily life or something that are meaningful to me .
The artwork is to make a diary with photos, you better take one photo everyday for you to memorizes every special moment of your hall life.

As this is a special diary you can only share it on the last day of every year.
You can share it by showing as a video in your room. In every 31 Dec., the students who join this artwork would be ask to open their room door and everyone could see your life.

I want to make this artwork is because I think, nowadays most of the students are only care of their own life, they seldom share to other. But I can make sure that in every room, in every video, students must show some photos that they were with their friends. So, I hope this art work could spare a message that, as human on the earth are not living alone, they should care more about others.

There always many problems in the city we lived in, some of them is more close to us which affect our daily life. Other issues especially recent political issue and environmental problems, are being ignored as citizens has seldom time to discover the detail of them. Citizens are usually busy for their own work for earning money.
This project is aim to raise their attention to do reflection on different categories.

The idea is to raise attention of people, what thing is also needed to be care about. It will be a series of installation and performance. Here are some ideas for it:

Life for Speed
Videos and gif photos would be taken in different places, from crowd to quiet. In the video, it shows different speed of lives in different location and time of the city. There would be one or more people standing in front of the camera rotating himself all the way according to the speed of the crowdedness. The project aims to show how fast and uncomfortability of the crowd city, comparing with the quiet city.
The setting can be placed at the crowded streets, especially on the pedestrian zone. With using huge screen placed on the wall of the building and television columns on the streets. Also, sensor with required program is needed to detect the velocity of passengers going through and the speed of their pace.
Area crowdedness in the video is determined by the speed of passengers. The faster the average step rate of the passengers passing through the road, the faster the gif photos rotating and the crowder the people in the video playing on the wall screen.
There would be a digital Earth sculpture at the middle of the settings. When more passengers ignored the artwork, different parts of the digital Earth would be destroyed. It shows that we must not neglect the important changes of our world besides us all the time.

The standard changing system is mainly calculated by the pairs of complex infrared light sensor which simple one always used for counted velocity of popularity passing through. Pair of them is needed to detected whether the passengers are coming in or going out.
For example, if a person pass through sensor1 first and the sensor2 which are in pair very nearby, it implies “coming in” and vice versa.
Pairs of sensors are placed to the entrance and exit, also inside the show place, to check which part of the exhibition always hold more audience. Also the velocity statistics can use for calculation of the average staying period of the passengers and change the effect of the screen and the Earth sculpture through programming.

Sleep or Not
In the MTR, many people listening to music or sleeping, but some of them pretend to be slept. Actually, some of them feel tired and do not want to take the risk to give their seats to passengers with special needs.
The artwork is interactive drama act acting like the real situation. Let the audience to think that is it ethically correct to do this and to feel the truth at that situation.
4 actors A,B,C and D will involve in the act.
A: be a normal passengers on the MTR, but do not voice out when wrong things happens
B: be a bad teenager which would act sleeping while the need comes in
C: be the need, such as the elderly, disability or even pregnancy
D: act as one of the audiences which would give motivation push and hint to the audience, and induce them to voice out if they are too passive for the case
There are limitation of number of participants (around 1-5 visitors once). Other audience can stand under the stage to watch what would happen while different people on the “MTR”.

Have you ever take a rest and hear the surrounding voice from nature? We are busy all the time, indulging in the world of technology, listening to pop songs, we soon forget the fascinating sound from nature, which can release our stresses.

Concept
This is designed as an installation artwork. The main settings include an electronic board and pen, headphones, a list of nature patterns for reference. This artwork is designed to let people listen to the forgotten sound of nature, like winds, thunder, water flows.

How to run
People are required to put on the headphone and start drawing the picture related to nature by the electronic board and pen. People are suggested to draw according to the given nature patterns for better detection.

Things that the person draws will be detected by the computer and transform into the corresponding pre-recorded sound. For instance, when a person draw a thunder, sound of thunder will be played through the headphones.

The played sounds will be accumulated when the person keeps drawing. Soon, the picture will be turned into sympathy of nature, like, the combination of the sounds of raining, thunder, lightening and hurricane.

People can enjoy their finished work and realize how amazing it is that a drawing picture can be turned into another art form - sound.

They are a bunch of lightsticks of different color which people used to play on mid-autumn festival, they become luminant only after being twisted. Just like us human, we never know our true strengths until we face real challenges, as the saying goes ” we don’t know how strong we can be until we’re forced to. “. The more difficulties we face, the more our true colors show.
