networks, video and audio communication, music<\/h5>\n<p>Un <em>Tunnel Paris New Delhi<\/em> dans le cadre de l&#8217;exposition Nouvelle Image Nouveaux R\u00e9seau<br \/>\ndu 25 janvier au 8 f\u00e9vrier 1998<\/p>\n<p>En septembre 1995, les visiteurs du mus\u00e9e d\u2019Art Contemporain de Montr\u00e9al et ceux du Centre Georges Pompidou \u00e0 Paris creusaient chacun de leur c\u00f4t\u00e9 un tunnel virtuel \u00e0 la rencontre les uns des autres. Deux ans plus tard ce premier maillon d\u2019un tunnel virtuel autour du monde se prolonge d\u2019une section Paris\/New-Delhi. Les r\u00e9seaux au service du rapprochement des individus et des cultures dans une cr\u00e9ation interactive de Maurice Benayoun.<br \/>\nDe chaque extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 de ce tunnel virtuel le public pourra creuser dans un volume de mati\u00e8re constitu\u00e9 d\u2019images appartenant au pass\u00e9 commun de la France et de l\u2019Inde. L\u2019espace ainsi cr\u00e9\u00e9 par le d\u00e9placement des visiteurs se constituera en temps r\u00e9el. Pendant le creusement il sera possible de discuter avec son homologue et parfois de le voir sous la forme d\u2019une image flottant dans l\u2019espace du Tunnel. En effet, chacun est film\u00e9 pendant qu\u2019il creuse et son image anim\u00e9e se retrouve sur une surface qui occupe sa place dans le monde virtuel.<br \/>\nPour le Tunnel sous l\u2019Atlantique la rencontre n\u2019eut lieu qu\u2019apr\u00e8s 5 jours de creusement, pour le Tunnel Paris-New Delhi les rencontres se multiplieront sur les routes de l\u2019Inde. Diff\u00e9rents lieux interm\u00e9diaires seront identifi\u00e9s par une partie ad\u00e9quate de l\u2019iconographie. Lorsque les deux creuseurs s\u2019int\u00e9resseront \u00e0 des images de m\u00eame nature ou de m\u00eame \u00e9poque, ils pourront, s\u2019ils le d\u00e9sirent se rencontrer. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019aide du \u00ab gadevu \u00bb, un agent presque intelligent, le tunnel pr\u00e9figure les syst\u00e8mes de recherche d\u2019images fond\u00e9s sur le comportement et non sur la d\u00e9claration. Il constitue aussi un nouveau mode de rencontre rendu possible par les r\u00e9seaux informatiques. La rencontre r\u00e9sulte de la proximit\u00e9 d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat au del\u00e0 de la proximit\u00e9 spatiale. Un d\u00e9but de voisinage s\u00e9mantique.<br \/>\nLa musique interactive cr\u00e9\u00e9e par Jean-Baptiste Barri\u00e8re pour ce Tunnel servira, comme la voix de chaque interlocuteur, de boussole pour favoriser la rencontre. Le son spatialis\u00e9 permet en effet de localiser l\u2019autre creuseur dans l\u2019espace opaque des images.
