Même les meilleurs semblent choisir le plus vulgaire de leur travail, de lââ¬â¢art vite compris, assorti aux fauteuils du salon. Lââ¬â¢art moyen a ses écoles et ses manuels. Cââ¬â¢est du travail mais même lââ¬â¢académisme nécessite un peu de talent. Au début des années 80, agacés par le retour àla figuration quââ¬â¢on qualifiait de ë libre û comme on parle de lââ¬â¢Ã©cole libre, nous avions imaginé de créer un groupe ë suiviste û qui tâcherait, laborieusement, de faire et refaire ce que dââ¬â¢autres avaient fait, souvent mieux, auparavant. Mais la motivation manquait, déjà, pour aller jusquââ¬â¢au bout du projet. Dââ¬â¢autres sont plus persévérants. Lââ¬â¢avantage de lââ¬â¢art moyen, cââ¬â¢est quââ¬â¢il se vend bien. En fait, peut-être pas si bien que ça. The best, even, seem to choose for that in their work, the most vulgar, rapidly understandable art, matching to the lounge chairs. Average art has its school and manuscripts. It is hard work, but even academism needs a little talent. In the beginning of the 80ââ¬â¢s, annoyed by the coming back of representation, one qualified as ââ¬Åfreeââ¬Â as it is said about free school. We imagined creating a circle of ââ¬Åfollowersââ¬Â, which would try with much effort to make and remake what others had made, often in a better way before. But motivation was lacking already, to allow us to reach the goal of the project. Others are more persistent. The asset of average art, is that it sells...in fact, maybe not as well as that.
