Is God flat ? and Is the Devil curved ?

These Virtual Reality (V.R.) devices are based on the same principle : we are in a bricked up room and we can dig corridors in real time through a three-dimensional material.
We have here a triple performance : the architectural data base is rebuilt frame by frame. The spectator can choose any direction on horizontal plane. The corridors built remain in memory and can cross-check themselves until they form a very complex architectured space. So we can carry out what can be called Boolean operations (intersection of volumes) in real time. What is more, the material through which we dig is a 3-D texture, that is it remains coherent whatever the section axis may be. In Is God flat ? we dig through bricks, in Is the Devil curved ?we dig in a nice blue sky sprinkled with white clouds. In And what about me ?(preparing), we will give you the answer as soon as it is ready...
These two devices will be revealed together in IMAGINA. While Silicon Graphics will present on their stand a surprising version of Is God flat ?, CANAL + will present Is the Devil curved ? on double screen. The basement of the one and the sky of the other should meet at the occasion.
This technical performance is due to the competence and the efficiency of Patrick Bouchaud et Richard Mercille who developed the project very quickly. What is more, Is the Devil curved ? is developed in Z.A Production by David Nahon and Jérôme Felix.
Those two productions were born thanks to Silicon Graphics Europe's competence and equipment. Only an ONYX RE 2 could enable the joint use of 3-D texture and of a geometric data base altered in real time.
