This skull is created by the artist, Mr Brainwash who like to create some pop art and also a filmmaker in Los Angeles. He likes to make street arts, spraying on the wall, drawing on the ground. Since he held his art show in 2008, he had been recognized by the public. This time, this artwork, Reborn was drawn by 9 colours for the main skull, who was originally the skull of Marilynn. Actually the artwork is not quite beautiful from my point of view. While, it can represent the “reborn” of Marilynn. It is because it shows the Marilynn clearly even if it is a skull or dead. When the public saw the yellow curvy hair with sharp red lips, it made us recognize who it is. While, if using skull as an artwork. It can fused with different element to make it more creative.
In the past, skull is a forbidden icon, which known as death, and mystery also. While,nowadays it seems to be one of the popular artwork for public no matter it is for movie or tattoo. The “Reborn”, from my point of view, is drawn to be very simple and traditional with the colour. It looks like a 60’s pop art with a very big contrast between the colour and the shadow. Nowadays, the trend of art is becoming very different from the past, like using skull as the protagonist of a movie, collecting crystal skull as their favourite hobby.
As a result, I’d like to see if there is an art about the “Reborn” skull which as an example to make it this way, a transparent skull and inside there is a real head of Marilynn, which means it is totally different from reality, skin of head cover the skull. By the way, Mr Brainwash chose to use a skull to present his art, in my point of view, decide to show no matter it is a skull, everything can be presented by its characteristic. The skull is one of the good example, because of the lipstick and the 60s pop art style, we can guess it as Marilyn easily. Although it became a skull, memory will not that easy to be disappeared in our mind.
