I would like to do an art work about the reflection of consumption behavior. Why this project should be done is that the social consumption behavior is out of control and becomes mad. For example, when Apple has a new product like iPhone, iPad and the like, people will line up the store over a week. Another example, many people use most of the income to buy brand name products in order to show off their status. Above the situation, lets me think some questions are that do we really need this product? What is the difference between ‘want’ and ‘need’? When people become like that, in order to get the product, they are willing to work in the morning until night to earn the enough money?
At first I would like to use the pop art style to create the picture in order to draw the attention of the customers, and wish them to reflect the consumption behavior, what is the ‘need’ and ‘want’. And why I choose to use this style because I think pop art style is meaningful and beautiful. When you see this type of art work, it always tells you something. However, I also know that if I use this skill to show the work, there is no different from the pop art, that mean I don’t have surmounted anything.
In view of advancement or we should say do something different from the old, I would like to combine the technique skill and pop art in my artwork.Recently, smartphone is very popular to Hong Kong people and it is helpful for me to think my art work how to be. I would like to make a bar code and put different logo information from it. When the smartphone users scan it, the 3D logo will be shown according to different version of phone. The logo shown to the people is not random but have a particular pattern. If you use a phone which is brought about two year ago, the logo is almost normal to you. But if your phone is latest version, the logo showed to you may have a big difference, the logo will be changed and mixed up evil from the original image. The system is updated at a regular period so that same people may have different interactively experience from it at different time.
My purpose is to draw the those people who indulged in the high technology products. ( I chose to use the ‘barcode’ have a special meaning. Imagine you didn’t have a smartphone, you cannot see the artwork and you will probably not have the problem of indulged the high technology product as you don’t have brought it. However, if you have a smartphone, that’s mean you can see my artwork and there may have impact to you and give you a chance to reflect your consumption behavior.)
Undeniable, although smartphone is popular to most of our people, not everyone get it. In order to make sure that everyone can admire my artwork, I will put a device near the bar code so that everyone can easy and free to see my work. To be an artist, I think we should concern it even it seems minor things. Again, those people who use the device will be random to different versions of phone so that people can have different experience. There are three machines which will be designed as a triangle at the museum. When someone scans the code, the logo will be projected in front of him. It will have some special effects when three latest models scan the code in the same time. It will have a video to show the past 30 years (people from using the cellphone to smartphone.) I believe it can pass the knowledge about the history of mobile phone to the smartphone users and draw their attention to reflect their behaviors.
Of course, people can also use their phone scan the code and get the unique experience. Some people may think the action of taking a phone from their bags to scan the code is not comfortable or we can say the action is not natural. True to say that the action is not natural, but it was the past. Now, people cannot live without their phone, they take their phone to whatsapp to their friend and check the Facebook every minute. Let’s them to scan a code, it is as simple as doing the above things.
