DïaloG, Alien Life in the Telescope

Live experiment in progress by Maurice Benayoun and Refik Anadol for the DïaloG project, MindSpaces, S+T+Arts EU program.

Live, part of Ars Electronica Festival 2020, Hong Kong, Thessaloniki, and MindSpaces Gardens.

DïaloG is made of two “living” entities facing each other in the public space.

They don’t look like the living beings we know.

They don’t speak any language we know.

They are aliens, strangers, immigrants.

They are clearly, and desperately, trying to understand each other.

DïaloG reflects on the difficulty of building a mutual understanding beyond social and cultural differences.

In Alien life in the Telescope, we observe them growing as a prelude to their upcoming physical meeting.

From Refik Anadol’s studio in Los Angeles, and Maurice Benayoun’s Neuro Design Lab in CityU Hong Kong, we see them growing, moving, and expressing their conditions and their desires.

DïaloG uses technologies developed by MindSpaces partners to allow a large spectrum of perceptive features that, combined with R. Anadol’s and M. Benayoun’s graphic generators and AI algorithms, create this empathic de-alienation.
